Hey everyone! I'm sure it's been hard on a lot of people to be cooped up inside for these last few days. What I've found helps me is sitting and reading a good book. Especially books that take place in a different world! The books I'm gonna recommend are books that you can find on Kindle so you won't have to worry about delivery or anything:
#1: Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth
This is an excellent example of a book that takes you to a whole new world. It's $10.99 on Amazon for the Kindle. This is a two book series but I'll give you the summary of the first book and if you're interested in reading the second one then great!
So this story is about two people named Cyra Noavek and Akos Kereseth. They are from two planets that have been at war with each other for years. When Akos gets kidnapped by Cyra's people and is forced to serve her, their fates get more intertwined as they learn about each other and their respective histories. I should also mention that in this universe, almost everyone develops some sort of gift by the time they hit puberty... just a fun little splash of excitement for you!
#2: I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella
Many of Sophie Kinsella's books are very good books to just sit and binge read, so obviously she MUST be on this list. It's $14.99 on Amazon for Kindle. I've Got Your Number is honestly one of those books that I finished in a day. It's a cute and humorous little romance that takes you on such a whirlwind of emotions and eventually you become invested in the life of Poppy Wyatt.
When Poppy loses here very expensive engagement ring in a hotel fire drill, she becomes frantic to find it. Then to top it all off, she gets here phone stolen by a guy on a bike! In her panic she finds a random phone in the trash and makes sure that the hotel has that number instead so they could call her when they found the ring. Come to find out, that phone is a company phone for the assistant of Sam Roxton. When he asks for it back, she begs him to keep it saying she'll forward all texts and emails to him. As reluctant as he is to do this, she finally annoys him enough to agree. Will this simple interaction end in catastrophe or will it all go smoothly as planned? If you've ever read a Sophie Kinsella book then you should know by now... catastrophe is more likely.
#3: An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
This book takes you on an adventure in a world where it's either bow to the fearsome Martial Empire or face the deadly consequences. Laia's a lowly slave while Elias is hopeful soldier-in-training. Both of them feel trapped in their lives. When Laia's brother is arrested for treason, she accepts the help from the rebels in return for her infiltrating the terrifying base where the most powerful soon-to-be soldiers are training. When Laia and Elias meet, they realize that they aren't so different. Their adventure takes them on a journey of breaking through the lives that were forced upon them.
This is the first book in a 4-book series. Right now there's only 3 books released but the fourth book is set to release on December 1, 2020. On Amazon, Ember in the Ashes is $9.99. Honestly, it may take a few days to read, (less if you're an avid reader) so I think this would be a good thing to read when your having to stay home for a while.
#4: Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
Ah yes, a classic recommendation that, honestly, never gets old. I've read all of the Twilight books multiple times and I just like the nostalgia it brings. I think they're really good to re-read when you're bored and not leaving the house very often. Many of you know the plot of the classic vampire love story but I'll sum it up just for fun:
Isabella Swan is moving to the small, rainy town of Forks, Washington to live with her father for the first time in years. Arriving there, she tries to acclimate herself to the new, small-town environment despite the fact that she's in the center of attention, much to her dismay.
Her first day of school brings her to meet Edward Cullen and the rest of his mysterious, beautiful foster family. No one in the school knows much about them but for some reason, Bella's intrigued. Despite the initial coldness from Edward, both of them end up playing a bigger role in each other's future than they originally thought.
I found it really hard to summarize that story because of the fact that it's so widely known. I felt like I was just being insanely obvious while describing it. As many know, this is a four book series that has sold millions of copies. Anyway, this book is $10.99 and I hope you find the time to re-read it or read it for the first time! :-)
#5: Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
Okay, so if you are familiar with this book and/or series then you know that.... it's not a book that you read in a day. It has a little over a thousand pages but is still an amazing book. If you plan on spending many days on lockdown then this would be a good book to maybe start reading, especially if you want to be completely immersed in an amazing fantasy world.
This is a really difficult book to sum up in one summary so because of this I'm going to give you the summary from Goodreads:
I long for the days before the Last Desolation. The age before the Heralds abandoned us and the Knights Radiant turned against us. A time when there was still magic in the world and honor in the hearts of men. The world became ours, and yet we lost it. Victory proved to be the greatest test of all. Or was that victory illusory? Did our enemies come to recognize that the harder they fought, the fiercer our resistance? Fire and hammer will forge steel into a weapon, but if you abandon your sword, it eventually rusts away. There are four whom we watch. The first is the surgeon, forced to forsake healing to fight in the most brutal war of our time. The second is the assassin, a murderer who weeps as he kills. The third is the liar, a young woman who wears a scholar's mantle over the heart of a thief. The last is the prince, a warlord whose eyes have opened to the ancient past as his thirst for battle wanes. The world can change. Surgebinding and Shardwielding can return; the magics of ancient days become ours again. These four people are key. One of them may redeem us. And one of them will destroy us.
I also believe that this is the official summary that you'll find on the book. This is going to be a ten book series and the fourth book is going to be the latest when it comes out sometime in later of this year (2020). This is more of a book recommendation for anytime but I though I would include it in this one as I like to read it when I want to completely zone into a different world. The book is $9.99 if you're interested :-)
