2021 Books I'm Looking Forward To!

Writer's picture: CatNipCatNip

We did it! We made it through 2020! This last year was completely crazy for a lot of people. That was the year of fearing sickness, never leaving the house, and binge-watching a lot of shows and movies. The scariest thing is that it wasn't that different from my normal day-to-day habits... I'm kidding! Kind of. But all jokes aside, there was a lot that happened. One of the best things that happened to me in 2020 and was starting this blog back in March. I've come farther than I thought I would, even though I'm not that far, and I've loved every minute of it! I'm excited to see what 2021 has to offer us all. For now, let's just look at what it has to offer in my little bookish world :-)

Lore by Alexandra Bracken

Release date: January 5th, 2021

Every seven years, the Agon begins. As punishment for a past rebellion, nine Greek gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals, hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines, all eager to kill a god and seize their divine power and immortality.

Long ago, Lore Perseous fled that brutal world in the wake of her family's sadistic murder by a rival line, turning her back on the hunt's promises of eternal glory. For years she's pushed away any thought of revenge against the man--now a god--responsible for their deaths.

Yet as the next hunt dawns over New York City, two participants seek out her help: Castor, a childhood friend of Lore believed long dead, and a gravely wounded Athena, among the last of the original gods.

The goddess offers an alliance against their mutual enemy and, at last, a way for Lore to leave the Agon behind forever. But Lore's decision to bind her fate to Athena's and rejoin the hunt will come at a deadly cost--and still may not be enough to stop the rise of a new god with the power to bring humanity to its knees.

I own the book Darkest Minds which was also written by this author but I haven't read it so I'm not completely sure what her writing style is. But, I have a MAJOR fascination with ancient mythology like Greek, Roman, Norse, and Egyptian. The fascination started after reading Rick Riordan and now I just love reading about it from different authors and seeing the different takes on it. So, this is definitely something I plan on purchasing and reading! I know it's being released tomorrow and it's been pretty advertised but if you haven't heard yet, you should definitely check out this book and order it when it's released!

The Betrayed by Kiera Cass

Note: May contain spoilers to previous books in the series

Can you follow your heart when it’s already broken?

After fleeing Coroa and leaving the memory of her beloved Silas behind, Hollis is unsteadily adjusting to life in Isolte. The Eastoffe family’s affection is a balm on her weary spirit, though Etan, a surly cousin with a deep distaste for Coroans, threatens to upset the uneasy peace she’s found.

While tensions at home ratchet up, disquiet in the kingdom of Isolte is reaching a fever pitch. The Eastoffes may have the power to unseat a tyrannical king—but only with Hollis’s help.

Can a girl who’s lost it all put the fate of her adopted homeland over the secret longings of her heart?

Alright, so I actually enjoyed the first book, The Betrothed. I mean it wasn't some deep and meaningful book and I slightly favor her Selection series. I feel like it was just a light, fast-paced read that took me on a little adventure. By the end of it, I was just thinking "Oh that clever Kiera Cass" because she made me NEED to read this second book. I seriously need to know what the heck happens after an ending like what she wrote.... *screams in anguish at the bookish problems*

In the Wild Light by Jeff Zentner

Life in a small Appalachian town is not easy. Cash lost his mother to opioid addiction and his Papaw is dying slowly from emphysema. Dodging drug dealers and watching out for his best friend, Delaney, is second nature. He’s been spending his summer mowing lawns while she works at Dairy Queen.

But when Delaney manages to secure both of them full rides to an elite prep school in Connecticut, Cash will have to grapple with his need to protect and love Delaney, and his love for the grandparents who saved him and the town he would have to leave behind.

I heard about this author a few months back when I went to Teen Author Boot Camp (which is amazing by the way) and I absolutely loved his "class" on dialogue! I've been planning on buying and reading some of his books but just haven't gotten around to it. Then I saw this book was coming out and I'm just excited about it because of the summary. It sounds super emotional so I have a feeling I'm going to need tissues!

As I've learned, some authors just LOVE to announce their books almost last minute, so I know for a fact there will be more amazing releases this year from some amazing authors. These are just the ones that come to my head and one's I'm interested in from what's been announced. I hope you're just as excited as me and I hope you all have an AMAZING year!

Until next time,

CatNip
