November 2020 Reading List

Writer's picture: CatNipCatNip

Happy turkey month everyone! I feel like last month I wasn't at my best with posting and reading so this month I wanna make up for it. I'm really excited about these books for this month and I hope you consider reading these yourself! I'm getting the summaries from Goodreads because these are books I have yet to review. Enjoy!

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black.

Kell was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see.

Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they'll never see. It's a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand.

After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.

Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they'll first need to stay alive.

I got this whole series last month and I'm really excited to read it because I've heard so many amazing things about it! I love all things magical so this is RIGHT up my alley.

The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson 2) by Rick Riordan

Book 2 of the Percy Jackson series

Note: This may contain spoilers to previous books in series

The heroic son of Poseidon makes an action-packed comeback in the second must-read installment of Rick Riordan's amazing young readers series. Starring Percy Jackson, a "half-blood" whose mother is human and whose father is the God of the Sea, Riordan's series combines cliffhanger adventure and Greek mythology lessons that result in true page-turners that get better with each installment.

In this episode, The Sea of Monsters, Percy sets out to retrieve the Golden Fleece before his summer camp is destroyed, surpassing the first book's drama and setting the stage for more thrills to come.

I read the first book a couple of months back and I loved it just as much as I had the first five times I read it! I love going through the mythology books by Rick Riordan and I'm happy to say that I own all of them so this will be a fun adventure.

A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir

Book 3 of the Ember in the Ashes series

Note: This may contain spoilers to previous books in series

Beyond the Martial Empire and within it, the threat of war looms ever larger.

Helene Aquilla, the Blood Shrike, is desperate to protect her sister's life and the lives of everyone in the Empire. Yet danger lurks on all sides. Emperor Marcus, haunted by his past, grows increasingly unstable and violent, while Keris Veturia, the ruthless Commandant, capitalizes on the Emperor's volatility to grow her own power—regardless of the carnage she leaves in her path.

Far to the east, Laia of Serra knows that the fate of the world lies not in the machinations of the Martial court, but in stopping the Nightbringer. During the hunt to bring him down, Laia faces unexpected threats from those she hoped would help her, and is drawn into a battle she never thought she'd have to fight.

And in the land between the living and the dead, Elias Veturius has given up his freedom to serve as Soul Catcher. However, in doing so, he has vowed himself to an ancient power that demands his complete surrender—even if that means abandoning the woman he loves.

This is the second to last book of the series and the final book is being released on December 1, 2020, and might I say, that I am INSANELY excited to see how she ends it. I have a sinking feeling that she's going to kill off some favorite characters. You know... as most authors do.

I hope you all have an excellent November and that you all stay safe! I think the one thing I'm most excited about when it comes to November is the sheer amount of food I have an excuse to eat!

Until next time,

CatNip
