A School for Good and Evil 3 (The Last Ever After): A Quest to Find Happy Endings

Writer's picture: CatNipCatNip

Book 3 of the School for Good and Evil series

Note: This may contain spoilers to previous books in the series

Summary

Agatha and Sophie thought their endings were sealed, Sophie especially. Agatha and Tedros escaped Sophie and her true love (the evil School Master) and are now in the town of Gavaldon where Sophie and Agatha grew up. Sophie is still in the realm of magic and fairytales with the one man who claims is her Ever After.

Every day, the School Master proposes to Sophie, and when she finally told him yes, they thought the story would end and they would get their happily ever after. That wasn't the case and it wasn't them that was the problem. Agatha and Tedros seemed to be having problems of their own in Gavaldon.

Despite believing that they finally got their ever after, Agatha and Tedros are now living with Agatha's mother. As the weeks go on, they begin to annoy, irritate, and argue with one another. They eventually realize that, despite loving one another, they couldn't have their happy ending without Sophie, their best friend, with them to share the happy ending. They decided to go back and rescue her from the villainous School Master. The only question is... does she really need saving?

Opinion

Scale of 1-10:

8

Okay, so I'm just going to start out by saying that I had a lot of mixed feelings about this book. I was planning on giving it a lower score but the ending of the book was pretty redeeming. There was a final scene that was pretty satisfying gave the amount of build-up in the rest of the book.

One thing that I didn't like was how Sophie's character wasn't given enough good qualities for me to hope for her redemption, in my opinion. I also feel like she's constantly going back and forth between Good and Evil that I think at this point, going on with the rest of the books, she needs to stay where she is in her allegiances. I hope that the author maybe makes a new villain for the next three books. I also hope that there's no more back and forth between whether or not Agatha wants to be with Tedros. I always enjoy it when the two main characters face doubt in their love story because it's usually what makes the love stronger, but I feel that there's been so much doubt that it's kind of tedious at this point.

Now on to what I enjoyed about this book because there was quite a bit. I really loved how exciting the book started off. I feel like I really got to know the main love interest, Tedros, much more and I thoroughly enjoy his character. I originally thought his character was going to be bland but he was really sarcastic and he and Agatha bounced off of one another with such ease that I absolutely ADORED! I also loved the amount of love he had for Agatha and the author did a really good job portraying his adoration for his princess.

As I said before, I really loved the ending of the book! While I feel there were some slow parts here and there throughout the book, the ending really showed how all that build-up paid off. I think this was an exciting halfway checkpoint in the series and I hope that it continues to go well for the rest of the books!

Age Rating

11+

There's some romance throughout the whole book and some kissing. There's also some mild violence and language.

Language:

The words "damn" and "ass" come up a few times throughout but not much.

Sexual Content:

There are multiple kissing scenes and two different romantic stories. There's nothing that goes beyond kissing given that this is a preteen book.

Violence:

There is a moderate amount of non-graphic violence. Mentions of stabbing and killing. Most of the book revolves around how old villains are coming back and killing their enemies in various ways. Notably, there's a character that gets killed by an ax.
