Happy August book nerds! I hope that you've been keeping busy so far in this interesting year of 2020 because I know that I have. It's kind of surprising how I haven't had to make drastic changes to how I live my life... I'm already an introverted homebody! Anyway, I have some pretty amazing reads lined up for this month and I hope you'll find them as exciting as I do!
Note: I'll be getting these summaries from Goodreads because I have not yet reviewed these books.
Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer
When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella’s side of the story. At last, readers can experience Edward’s version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun.
This unforgettable tale as told through Edward’s eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting beautiful, mysterious Bella is both the most intriguing and unnerving event he has experienced in his long life as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward’s past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life. How can he let himself fall in love with Bella when he knows that he is endangering her life?
Ever since Stephenie Meyer announced the release date to this book, I've been jumping up and down in anticipation. I just finished reading all four books of the Twilight series in preparation for the release of this book and so I now feel that I'm ready!

Way of Kings (Stormlight Archive book 1) by Brandon Sanderson
According to mythology mankind used to live in The Tranquiline Halls. Heaven. But then the Voidbringers assaulted and captured heaven, casting out God and men. Men took root on Roshar, the world of storms. And the Voidbringers followed...
They came against man ten thousand times. To help them cope, the Almighty gave men powerful suits of armor and mystical weapons, known as Shardblades. Led by ten angelic Heralds and ten orders of knights known as Radiants, mankind finally won.
Or so the legends say. Today, the only remnants of those supposed battles are the Shardblades, the possession of which makes a man nearly invincible on the battlefield. The entire world is at war with itself - and has been for centuries since the Radiants turned against mankind. Kings strive to win more Shardblades, each secretly wishing to be the one who will finally unite all of mankind under a single throne.
On a world scoured down to the rock by terrifying hurricanes that blow through every few days a young spearman forced into the army of a Shardbearer, led to war against an enemy he doesn't understand and doesn't really want to fight.
What happened deep in mankind's past?
Why did the Radiants turn against mankind, and what happened to the magic they used to wield?
Many people who know me know that I really love books written by Brandon Sanderson. This is the first book out of ten in his epic fantasy series and I plan on re-reading the first three books so as to catch up when he releases his fourth book this November 15! This book has 1,001 pages and I plan on reading it in two weeks... may the odds be ever in my favor (whoops, wrong fandom!).

ATorch Against the Night (Ember In the Ashes book 2) by Sabaa Tahir
Note: This may include spoilers to previous books in series
Elias and Laia are running for their lives. After the events of the Fourth Trial, Martial soldiers hunt the two fugitives as they flee the city of Serra and undertake a perilous journey through the heart of the Empire.
Laia is determined to break into Kauf—the Empire’s most secure and dangerous prison—to save her brother, who is the key to the Scholars’ survival. And Elias is determined to help Laia succeed, even if it means giving up his last chance at freedom.
But dark forces, human and otherworldly, work against Laia and Elias. The pair must fight every step of the way to outsmart their enemies: the bloodthirsty Emperor Marcus, the merciless Commandant, the sadistic Warden of Kauf, and, most heartbreaking of all, Helene—Elias’s former friend and the Empire’s newest Blood Shrike.
Bound to Marcus’s will, Helene faces a torturous mission of her own—one that might destroy her: find the traitor Elias Veturius and the Scholar slave who helped him escape…and kill them both.
It's been a while since I read this book in the series so I've honestly forgotten what I thought of it. This is another series I'm re-reading because of the release of another book in the series. The final book is getting released this September and I'm eagerly awaiting!
