So, because this is such a large book series, I wanted to kind of give you a half-way point about what I think about the first four books. It's also a way for me to review the first half of the books as a whole rather than individually as I have been doing. If you haven't read the individual reviews, then this is a good way to hear my opinion on them and see if you even want to start reading the series.
List of books in the series:
Those in red are the one's I'll be discussing today
Michael Vey 1: The Prisoner of Cell 25
Michael Vey 2: Rise of the Elgen
Michael Vey 3: Battle of the Ampere
Michael Vey 4: Hunt for Jade Dragon
Michael Vey 5: Storm of Lightning
Michael Vey 6: Fall of Hades
Michael Vey 7: The Final Spark
Overall Summary
Michael Vey and a handful of other teens have been gifted with electric abilities at birth. Now, they must fight against the very company that created them... the Elgen. The Elgen are a threat to the entire world. They want to take it over and create a new species of electric humans. Michael Vey and the Electroclan must put a stop to them!
The Electroclan has travelled all over in the past four books. They started in Boise, Idaho then travelled to Pasadena, California. From there, they travelled to Peru to try and rescue Michael's mother from the Elgen's evil clutches. They've done all of this while being attacked and chased by the Elgen. In constant fear for their lives, the Electroclan tries everything they can to make sure they protect the world and each other. Will they be able to survive long enough to put a stop to the Elgen? Who will they lose along the way?
My Thoughts
Alright.... so this is my second time reading the Michael Vey series and I'm feeling kind of the same feelings as I did the first time. I'm interested but also kind of disappointed. These aren't awful books so far but I also think that they could've been better. One thing that I don't like so far is some of the dialogue. I just think it's slightly corny and unrealistic. I also feeling like, even though the teenagers have super powers and everything, their parents and the people in charge are just letting them go and fight the dangers of an evil corporation that will kill them if they get the chance... pretty messed up if you ask me.
While I do have those complaints, I do enjoy the entertainment aspect of the books. The places that the characters go to are really cool and I enjoy that part. There are also a couple of humorous parts that kind of make me chuckle but there's not a whole lot. I will give it to the author when I say that I am still kind of wondering what happens (I forgot what happened since the last time I read it). I want to see how the story ends but I'm also not just getting sucked into the books like I hoped I would be.
These are the types of books that, if you're bored, you should pick up and read it. It's not something I recommend as your go-to book, but if you get around to reading it, then that's good. The first book was absolutely amazing because of the uniqueness of it, but then I felt it didn't get much better after that. It's kind of just stayed mediocre.
Again, this is only for the first four books of the series. I will still be doing individual reviews for the rest of the series so if you want to see if they get better then go ahead and read the reviews as I post them!
