This month of April has been very productive for many reasons. This is going to be the first full month of me posting on this blog and I'm really quite proud of the organizational system I've made for this aspect of my life. It's really helped me enjoy what I do while still being able to do other enjoyable things in my life. Plus.... this self-distancing has given my A LOT of free-time.
So for this article I'm going to go over the books that I have planned for this month. Since I'm behind on posting this article, I'll also be including the couple of books I've already read. Also, some of the books are ones I haven't read, I'll be including the official summary that's on Goodreads. I hope you enjoy!
This is a little bit of a long article so be prepared!
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

IN THE YEAR 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines, puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.
But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.
If you've read my article for this book, then you'll know that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would definitely recommend it to readers who also like to game!

The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek by Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal

It's 1992 in Bleak Creek, North Carolina, a sleepy little place with all the trappings of an ordinary Southern town: two Baptist churches, friendly smiles coupled with silent judgments, and a seemingly unquenchable appetite for pork products. Beneath the town’s cheerful façade, however, Bleak Creek teens live in constant fear of being sent to The Whitewood School, a local reformatory with a record of putting unruly teens back on the straight and narrow—a record so impeccable that almost everyone is willing to ignore the mysterious deaths that have occurred there over the past decade.
At first, high school freshmen Rex McClendon and Leif Nelson believe what they’ve been told—that the students’ strange demises were all tragic accidents. But when the shoot for their low-budget horror masterpiece, PolterDog, goes horribly awry—and their best friend, Alicia Boykins, is sent to Whitewood as punishment—Rex and Leif are forced to question everything they know about their unassuming hometown and its cherished school for delinquents.
Eager to rescue their friend, Rex and Leif pair up with recent NYU film school grad Janine Blitstein to begin piecing together the unsettling truth of the school and its mysterious founder, Wayne Whitewood. What they find, with Alicia’s life hanging in the balance, will leave them battling an evil beyond their wildest teenage imaginations—one that will shake Bleak Creek to its core.
This is another book I've read already and as I included in my previous article, I am a huge fan of the authors for their show called Good Mythical Morning. This is a really good book for two authors who's main profession isn't writing. The plot is unique and creative and honestly, it's an amazing mix of creepy and humorous!

Steelheart (The Reckoners Book 1) by Brandon Sanderson

Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics. But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his will.
Nobody fights the Epics...nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.
And David wants in. He wants Steelheart — the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father. For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying, and planning — and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.
He's seen Steelheart bleed. And he wants revenge.
It's honestly been a while since I've reread this book and I'm super excited to reread it and relive all of the excitement I had from the first time I read it. When I reread books, I like thinking about where I was at in my life when I read that book for the first time.

Firefight by Brandon Sanderson (The Reckoners Book 2)

So... I'm not going to include the summary of this book because it gives spoilers to the first book. I wouldn't have a problem doing this if the first book in the series wasn't RIGHT above this summary, but because it would immediately give the ending away for Steelheart, I don't want to do that just in case :-)

One of Us Is Next (One of Us Is Lying Book 2) by Karen McManus

Note: This will contain spoilers to the previous books in the series
Come on, Bayview, you know you've missed this.
A ton of copycat gossip apps have popped up since Simon died, but in the year since the Bayview four were cleared of his shocking death, no one's been able to fill the gossip void quite like he could. The problem is no one has the facts.
Until now.
This time it's not an app, though—it's a game.
Truth or Dare.
Phoebe's the first target. If you choose not to play, it's a truth. And hers is dark. Then comes Maeve and she should know better—always choose the dare. But by the time Knox is about to be tagged, things have gotten dangerous. The dares have become deadly, and if Maeve learned anything from Bronwyn last year, it's that they can't count on the police for help. Or protection.
Simon's gone, but someone's determined to keep his legacy at Bayview High alive. And this time, there's a whole new set of rules.
If you've seen my review of the first book in the series, One of Us Is Lying, then you know that it is quite literally one of my favorite mystery novels. Karen McManus is my favorite mystery author so far and I'm excited to see what she does with this book.

The Silver Mask (The Magisterium Book 4) by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black

Note: This will contain spoilers for previous books in the series

He didn't succeed . . . but he did find a way to keep himself alive, inside a young child named Callum Hunt. Now Call is one of the most feared and reviled students in the history of the Magisterium, thought to be responsible for a devastating death and an ever-present threat of war. As a result, Call has been imprisoned and interrogated. Everyone wants to know what Constantine was up to-and how he lives on. But Call has no idea. In this spellbinding fourth book of Magisterium, bestselling authors Holly Black and Cassandra Clare take us beyond the realm of the living and into the dangers of the dead.
This series is just amazing so I have no doubts that this book will be equally amazing. Plus, I just really need to know what happens next! It's been killing me!

The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver

Lydia and Freddie. Freddie and Lydia. They'd been together for more than a decade, and Lydia thought their love was indestructible.
But she was wrong. On her twenty-eighth birthday, Freddie died in a car accident.
So now it's just Lydia, and all she wants to do is hide indoors and sob until her eyes fall out. But Lydia knows that Freddie would want her to try to live fully, happily, even without him. So, enlisting the help of his best friend, Jonah, and her sister, Elle, she takes her first tentative steps into the world, open to life--and perhaps even love--again.
But then something inexplicable happens that gives her another chance at her old life with Freddie. A life where none of the tragic events of the past few months have happened.
Lydia is pulled again and again across the doorway of her past, living two lives, impossibly, at once. But there's an emotional toll to returning to a world where Freddie, alive, still owns her heart. Because there's someone in her new life, her real life, who wants her to stay.
I've honestly heard a lot of amazing things about this book so I really look forward to reading it!
