Summary

Ever since the Bayview Four (Bronwyn, Nate, Addy, and Cooper) solved how Simon Kelleher died, and his gossip app, About That, was finished, many people tried to replicate the pure intrigue that it brought to Bayview High. None of them seemed to last long, though. No one thought that the app could be replaced... that is until a game took its place. From an unknown number, the entire school got sucked into an intense game of Truth or Dare. And when it started, people quickly realized one thing: Always choose Dare.

Maeve and Phoebe are the first to be brought into the game. If you choose Dare, you must do something outrageous. If you choose Truth (or just ignore the game altogether) one of your dark secrets is revealed. After the two girls are targeted, their friend, Knox, is going to be next. By that point, the game has reached new stakes and is just getting dangerous.... even deadly.

This story is told from the perspectives of Knox, Phoebe, and Maeve, and brings us all back to the exciting and suspenseful town of Bayview. Simon may be dead, but these kids are now dealing with his legacy. Will they do as well as the original Four? Or will they crumble under the pressure?

Opinion

Scale of 1-10:

9.5

Oh, this book DID NOT disappoint me! It felt so awesome to return to Bayview and follow a whole new story. It was so comforting to read and see the familiar characters from the original book, even though it wasn't from their POV. Somehow, Karen McManus can still make you fall in love with the former main characters, even though they aren't in the spotlight of the story anymore. These new characters of the story were just amazing too! I loved getting to know them and see their relationships grow and see their relationships with the original Bayview Four.

While it took a little longer to get in the thick of things than the first book, I still got completely enveloped in the mystery and drama that was in this story. I really like they way this author writes from everyone's point of view. I know a lot of authors do this, but for some reason, the way these books are written, I get completely hooked. I really look forward to the next books of hers that come out!

Age Rating

15+

In my opinion, this book was a little more mature than the first book. One of the main characters, Phoebe, copes with the death of her father by having a string of casual relationships. The one that you actually see in the story is an unhealthy one with a completely arrogant jerk. Eventually, this guy ends up assaulting her when she refuses him but it doesn't go to far because she slaps him on the face and he leaves. Phoebe is also called things like slut and whore a couple times throughout the story.

There are various sexual references and jokes. Maeve and Knox had dated before this story takes place and are now best friends. They talk about how they were going to have sex when they were together but they didn't end up going through with it. Knox is later made fun of later in the book by guys in the high school and that is when a lot of the sexual jokes are made. There are also a couple of prolonged make-out scenes but they never go beyond kissing.

There is language throughout the whole book. The words said are the F word, "sh**", "ass", "hell", "damn", and "d**k". The cursing isn't every other word but it's also not only a couple times. The language really isn't what makes this book inappropriate compared to the sexual references.

If it hasn't already been made clear, this is definitely more of a teen book and wouldn't recommend it for preteens or younger.
