Summary

Heroes and villains. Powerful and powerless. These things are what determine Nova Artino's world. Spending the first six years of her life in a broken society, she came to rely on the up-and-coming superheroes that called themselves the Renegades. They promised to protect and bring happiness and stability back to the world. She believed that she truly did. That is... until they let her family get murdered.

Nova is then taken in by her powerful uncle, Ace Anarchy, the leader of the Anarchists. The Anarchists were a group of prodigies that were known for the destruction that they wrought on millions of people. They were the ones that the Renegades were trying to end. Eventually, they succeeded with the murder of Ace Anarchy himself.

Shoot forward ten years: Some form of stability has been brought to the world with the help of the Renegades and they plan to keep it that way. Nova has different plans in mind. She is bent on revenge against the Renegades and she plans to see their destruction take place. As she gets closer to her goal, she meets Adrian. Adrian is a Renegade who believes it's his job to keep the world a safe and just place.

Will Nova be able to keep going to see her plan through? Her feelings keep tearing her away from her loyalty and vice versa. She wants to kill the man who took her uncle but will she be able to do that when she gets close to the very person who could threaten to destroy her?

Opinion

Scale of 1-10:

10

This was an EXCELLENT book! I was just really drawn into the story and the characters. I just fell in love with multiple characters and got really attached to them and their stories. I feel like Marissa Meyer made their emotions seep through the pages and I felt the struggles and the happiness of some of the characters. I loved the obvious struggle that Nova went through as she bonded with people who should have naturally been her enemies. I loved watching her get attached to people and eventually quit correcting her feelings.

The humor in the book was absolutely fantastic! There is some sarcasm that just made me laugh out loud and make me love the characters that made the joke even more. There were even some touching moments with the people you wouldn't expect to have those moments with. I even got a little teary in one scene with Nova and one of the other villains(I may have just been emotional but who knows).

I absolutely love Adrian's story, as well. He is such a genuine person and when the story is told from his POV, you really see that. I think it just added such a great contrast to Nova's POV and it made the story much more gripping and interesting. I was always wondering when the respective secrets that Nova and Adrian had would be revealed. The fact that I could see from each of their POVs what they saw when looking at the other, and I knew all of the secrets they each had, it made me kind of anxious and I kept thinking, "Okay, this is when everything's going to be revealed."

Age Rating

11+

This book is more geared towards teens and preteens. There really isn't any inappropriate content but it's a longer book that younger kids may not be able to focus on. As far as romantic stuff is concerned, there is really only flirting. There's an obvious attraction between Nova and Adrian throughout the whole book. There is also flirtations between two of the other Renegades on Adrian's team but it's not really talked about in detail. There is both heterosexual and homosexual relationships represented in this story. Adrian was adopted by two Renegade men when his mother was killed and the story shows bits of their relationship through Adrian's point of view.

As far as language goes there are words like "damn", "hell", and "ass" throughout the books. There's definitely not a lot but they're kind of littered throughout the story. Other than that, there's violence and death throughout the book but the violence is never really described.
