Books in series:

Renegades (Book 1)

Archenemies (Book 2)

Supernova (Book 3)

Summary (for the first book)

Heroes and villains. Powerful and powerless. These things are what determine Nova Artino's world. Spending the first six years of her life in a broken society, she came to rely on the up-and-coming superheroes that called themselves the Renegades. They promised to protect and bring happiness and stability back to the world. She believed that she truly did. That is... until they let her family get murdered.

Nova is then taken in by her powerful uncle, Ace Anarchy, the leader of the Anarchists. The Anarchists were a group of prodigies that were known for the destruction that they wrought on millions of people. They were the ones that the Renegades were trying to end. Eventually, they succeeded with the murder of Ace Anarchy himself.

Shoot forward ten years: Some form of stability has been brought to the world with the help of the Renegades and they plan to keep it that way. Nova has different plans in mind. She is bent on revenge against the Renegades and she plans to see their destruction take place. As she gets closer to her goal, she meets Adrian. Adrian is a Renegade who believes it's his job to keep the world a safe and just place. I mean, he did have the two most famous superheroes as fathers so that may be where he gets his nobleness...

Will Nova be able to keep going to see her plan through? Her feelings keep tearing her away from her loyalty and vice versa. She wants to kill the man who took her uncle but will she be able to do that when she gets close to the very person who could threaten to destroy her?

Scale of 1-10:

Alright so when I finished this series, I immediately knew that it was a ten because the minute I read the last page I got really sad. I had spent so long looking forward to the next book in the series and now... I don't have that. It's kind of depressing! It's that feeling where you don't know if you can find another series to top it. Okay, this article has taken a turn for the worse so I need to back it up.

*deep breath*

Alrighy then! Let's do this!

There are so many great things to say about this book. I love superheroes stories in general so this series was like a dream come true. I've also been a Marissa Meyer fan since reading the first Lunar Chronicles so when I heard she was making a hero book series, I about died! She wrote it so well too. The characters she created just brought me into the story and made me way too invested in their lives for it to be good for my health. I can't even begin to explain the sheer emotional roller coaster I was on when I was reading about the things happening to Nova, Adrian, and the rest of their team.

Nova's personal growth through it all was also just so beautiful to see. I loved watching the line between hero and villain fade before her very eyes as she fell in love with Adrian. And it started fading for him too, as he also got closer to Nova. Her bond with a few of the other villains also just hit me in the feels because they are her family despite the obvious dysfunction.

One thing that I really wish is that there were more guys like Adrian Everheart in the real world because he is just a freaking angel. I loved reading about the complicated feelings he and Nova had for each other and the feelings they had for the world. There is so much more I can say about the amount I loved the characters but I think it'll be way too long of an article! I may have to start doing character profiles just for fun...

This was one of those books where I felt I was watching an excellent movie play out right before my eyes. I truly hope that someone makes a series of movies out of these books so that I can actually watch it play out. I just hope it isn't ruined like so many other adaptions are.

All I have left to say is, GO AND READ THE RENEGADES SERIES!

Age Rating

11+

This is a perfect book for preteens and anyone older. I'm not a preteen and got absolutely enthralled in this story. There's quite a bit of violence, occasional mild language, and only a little bit of sexual content.

Language

The only words said maybe a few times in each book are "damn", "hell", "ass", and "sh**". The word "sh**" is only said in the final book and it's said consecutively three times. After that, the word isn't repeated again. Language definitely isn't a problem or major note in this series.

Sexual Content

There really isn't a lot of sexual content except super small references that are almost unnoticeable and a few kissing scenes happen throughout. There's the main romantic plot with Nova and Adrian, and another semi-major one between their teammates, Ruby and Oscar (which I absolutely adore).

Violence

Because this is a superhero series, violence is obviously a given. There are only a couple of graphic scenes where you can almost imagine the pain the characters are going through. Other than that, it's mostly light fighting scenes that, if you imagine them in your head, are actually pretty cool (in my opinion).
