Opinion

Scale of 1-10:

9

What a great book! I thoroughly enjoyed the action and adventure that Spensa experienced. The humor was still as hilarious as the first book. There were a lot of new characters so I really didn't get as attached to them as I did with the first book but I still really enjoyed Spensa getting to know some of them. There were different alien races that were so creatively developed and honestly there's one of the races that is just absolutely loveable!

This story was a little bit more slow moving than the last book but I just mainly chalk that up to the fact that it's an in-between book in the Skyward series. Even despite that, this was an incredible storyline and I'm SUPER excited for the next book! This author (Brandon Sanderson) has yet to disappoint me with a book. All-in-all this is a great book and if you liked the first book then I completely suggest that you continue with the series because this sequel lives up to it's potential.

Age Rating

11+

So this book is pretty appropriate for younger teens but is still enjoyable for older teens and young adults. When it comes to language, there are a few occasions of "damn" and "hell" being used. Really, language isn't a problem in this book. Romance-wise, there's almost nothing. At the beginning of the book, Spensa kisses the leader of her flight team, Jorgen. Even in the first book there was always hinting at the fact that him and her had affection for each other. Nothing else happens between the two due to the fact that Spensa is about to leave the planet.

Every now and then, there is discussion about the very different way that an alien race reproduces. It's not really inappropriate because they are mainly just scientifically explaining how it's different from human sexual reproduction. Spensa is very clear how abnormal she find it.

This book also deals with internal crises that Spensa deals with. A lot of it is how she perceives the enemy and she struggles to see things as black and white like she previously did. She realizes that not every alien is her enemy and that some of them just wish to live their lives and not cause problems.
