The Bronze Key: The Most Shocking Installment of the Magisterium Series!

Writer's picture: CatNipCatNip

This is #3 in the Magisterium series

Note: Contains spoilers to previous books in the series

Summary

Apparently, the Magisterium school is meant to be a safe place for magical students. After recent events, that proves to be incredibly untrue. Call, Aaron, Tamara, and now Jasper (reluctantly) are battling the chaos still. Just because they technically "killed" the Enemy of Death, that doesn't mean he's still not a threat. Along with worrying about normal teenage stuff like school and dating, the group now has to face the reality that they may no longer be safe at their place of learning. This terrible realization comes abruptly when one of their fellow classmates is killed! Now the team has to find out who the killer is and who's been trying to kill the rest of them too.

Along with their new dangerous life comes the feelings of paranoia, fear, and pain. That's only to name a few. On top of that is the question everyone in the magical world has been hinting at:

Now that the Enemy is gone, what's stopping Call and Aaron from taking his place?

Opinion

Scale of 1-10:

9

Okay... so I'm going to make one thing clear. This book... was AWESOME! I would've given it a full ten but the only thing holding me up was the fact that it took a little bit longer to get into it compared to the last two books. Cassandra Clare and Holly Black more than made up for it, though. I was just absolutely shocked by the time I finished this book that I didn't know what to think. In a good way, of course!

I really enjoyed the humor of the book too. It just keeps getting better as the characters get older. They're also starting to face other obstacles of being a teenager such as dating. It's amazing to hear it from Call's point of view because he's so witty when it comes to talking back and being snarky, but when it comes to talking to girls, he's so awkward! It made for a lot of good comedy.

So trust me when I say that if you enjoyed the books before this, you will most certainly enjoy this one. Like I said, by the time you're done reading it, you'll kinda be sitting there in shock!

Age Rating

10-11+

Note: This will contain some spoilers

The only reason I included a little higher of an age rating for the book is because now that the kids are getting older, dating is more of a topic. Obviously it's not HUGE topic or theme but it's still mentioned more in this book. In the book, Jasper is dating one of the girls in his apprentice group, Celia, and the other member of the group goes to Call, Tamara, and Aaron saying that she needs to move dorms because Celia and Jasper are always kissing and being all romantic around each other. Call also likes Celia so there's talk of that multiple times throughout the story.

As is the usual for this series, there is no cursing in this book. The only other thing worth mentioning is that there seems to be more of a dark overtone when it comes to death and murder. The main reason of the book is that Call has been the victim of attempted assassinations and they need to discover who it was. Right in the beginning of the book there is a murder as well.
