The Magisterium series book 5: The Golden Tower

Note: This may include spoilers for previous books in the series

Summary

Let's look on the bright side... Callum Hunt isn't a wanted criminal anymore. But that doesn't mean people don't hate him still. I mean why would they? It's not like he was a hero and saved countless live. Starting his final year with his friends, Tamara, Jasper, and a few others who can still stand him, Callum really starts to feel the resentment that some of his fellow classmates feel for him.

Despite the fact that he seemed to have beaten Alex Strike, the friend-turned-foe, Call still feels like he's surrounded by darkness. He still has the soul of Constantine Madden after all. With all the self-doubt and worry, some of the very few things that he holds onto are his friendships. With everything the group has been through together, they all realize the importance of staying together through everything that is to come. It will be harder than they ever imagined. Will they be able to survive it?

Now, going back to the Magisterium, the group learns even more new things in this final installment of the Magisterium series. How will they use these discoveries to their advantage? Will the discoveries end up being their weakness?

Opinion

Scale of 1-10:

9

I am feeling a lot of emotions with this book. One part of me is satisfied with the conclusion of the series that I've loved for years now. The other part is SUPER sad to see these beloved characters go. I think back to the characters in the first book and it's really amazing to see how they changed and grew closer together. I enjoyed this book even though it seemed to feel kind of rushed at times when it came to the story-line. I feel that it was a really great conclusion for the series and it left me with a good feeling of closure. A part of me still wants to see how their futures outside of the Magisterium school turn out, though.

The humor in this book is really in line with the rest of the books, as in it's really sarcastic and witty at times. I really appreciated the sarcasm of Call and Jasper. They are absolutely hilarious when they get together and bounce off of each other! I also enjoyed how loyal Jasper became, despite the fact that he wanted to not like Call. He became an excellent member of the team.

This was just such a good series and I plan on doing an overall review of the whole thing. For right now though, I definitely recommend reading this last book because it's going to give you so many positive emotions about the characters and their bond as friends. This book just gave me all-around good feelings and I won't soon be forgetting this story. I started reading this when the first book was published so it has definitely carried on throughout a good little bit of my life.

Age Rating

11+

This isn't an inappropriate book, much like the rest of the series. This whole series is really meant for preteens and teens. Almost all the characters in the story are with someone or romantically interested. There are both homosexual and heterosexual relationships mentioned in the story. Callum and Tamara's relationship is highlighted as one of the main themes of the story. Call tries to figure out how to talk to her but eventually realizes that he doesn't have to try so hard to impress her by being someone he's not. There are a few kissing scenes throughout but they aren't graphic at all.

There isn't any language in this book either. Again the age rating really lines up with the rest of the books in the series. There is some violence in the book but none of it is graphically described at all.

There is some really positive messages about friendship and the stuff that you would do for the people you loved. I really enjoyed it in this book. It shows the sacrifices that people make for the greater good and for what they believe is right.
