Summary

Well.... there's a new thing that Call can put on his list of things that have resulted from his awful luck. Okay it may be a couple of things: He's being framed for murder, the murder victim was his best friend, and now the whole of the magic world knows that he has the soul of the Enemy of Death inside of him. Let's just say, it's not going to be the BEST year for Call. Especially since he's starting it in a high security magical prison.

Everyone wants to know what the Enemy of Death is going to do next so they interrogate him daily for the memories of Constantine Madden that are inside of Call. He starts to believe that no one's coming for him. He starts to believe that no one is going to help him. It wasn't until he was broken out of prison by his friend, Tamara, and (accidentally) Jasper, that he truly realizes that he's not alone. Unfortunately, he also realizes that he's more powerful than he realized and not all of that power is good, either.

Now, together, Call needs to figure out how to use his power. Does he use it for his own happiness even though it might not be right? Or does he put aside his desires and do what he knows is right?

Opinion

Scale of 1-10:

8.5

The plotline to this book wasn't exactly what I expected after the last one. I guess I shouldn't be surprised given the ending of the last book. It eventually grew on me and I got really interested in what was going to happen next! The ending was honestly just amazing and I was very content with it. I'm really excited to see how Cassandra Clare and Holly Black conclude this astonishing series.

There were some points in the book that I about cried of laughing. I love how big of a role the character, Jasper, is playing. He brings so much humor to the story that makes it so much better! There are certain scenes in the book that are supposed to be kind of serious but for some reason that's not possible with this character. There are facial expressions and comments that he makes that just completely ruins the serious vibe.

Age Rating

10-11+

These are books that are made for preteens so they aren't inappropriate for the age range at all. While death is a main theme in the book I wouldn't call it a necessarily dark book, as you might think. There isn't any language or any sexual references. The only romantic stuff is the romance that sparks between Call and Tamara. It's hinted at in The Bronze Key, but you really see it in this book. There's one kissing scene between the two but it doesn't last long.

We also get a small glimpse into Master Rufus's past love life. He talks about meeting a man that he couldn't tell about the magic world. The lesson he was trying to teach Call was that secrets will consume you if you don't share them.

Other than that there really isn't anything. There's action and some violence but nothing too graphic.
