Summary
Isabella Swan is not what you would call a fan of Forks, Washington, a rainy and always cloudy town. She's not too happy when she has to move there to live with her father, Charlie, who, like her, is quiet and distant. Before that point, she'd only seen him for a couple of weeks in the summer. She truly doubted how long she'd be able to last in this town when comparing it to her old town of Phoenix, Arizona.
Bella almost surrendered herself to her gloomy fate until she met the mysterious, and VERY gorgeous, Edward Cullen. With his pale, porcelain skin and his beautiful golden eyes, she felt immediately drawn to him and his equally beautiful family. What she didn't realize, however, is that they had a dark secret. One that could cause many problems and a lot of suffering for Bella.
As she begins to uncover the secrets, she starts to understand their appearances and odd behavior. She even starts seeing the danger. Despite all the warning signs and Edward himself telling her to not trust him, she couldn't help falling in love with him. Him, and all the problems he brought.

*Disclaimer*
This book (and the movie) holds a certain nostalgia for me so I may be slightly biased
Alright, so I'm very much aware that many of you know the basic plot of Twilight even if you've never read the book or seen the movie. But I still wanted to read it because of the highly anticipated installment of the Twilight series, Midnight Sun. Apparently it's supposed to be a retelling of Edward meeting Bella through his point of view... I'm SO EXCITED! Okay... I need to calm myself. This is not an article for that book.
I absolutely love the Twilight series! Even in its sappy romantic way, it still a very quality book. As I'm reading it now that I'm slightly older, there are a lot of ways that could falsely lead girls to believe that if a guy is following them, he's just doing it for their safety. I want to make one thing clear for all of you ladies out there, I guarantee that if a man who claims to care about you is following you without really knowing for sure you're in danger, he's not as noble as Edward Cullen. Edward Cullen is what I like to call the beautiful exception. If a guy followed me and then later claimed to be protecting me by doing it, I would laugh in his face and tell him that I need A LOT of space. As creepy as Edward may seem, he truly does want Bella's safe as often as possible and isn't a creepy stalker-murderer.
Other than that little blip, the things that happen in this book truly just make my heart flutter a little bit because I am a huge hopeless romantic! One thing I just fall in love with is how relatable Bella is with everything. She has intense feelings that I'm sure many teenage girls can relate to when it comes to having your first real crush. I mean you kind of have to double it for her because of how gorgeous her first crush is... I also just adored the rest of the Cullen family. They have such a strong bond with each other that really makes you love the family dynamic!
I know this went a little longer than my usual reviews but I felt very compelled to talk this much about this book because of my love for the story and the nostalgia it holds for me. I would recommend reading it, though, because, in my opinion, it is a classic romance and I really feel that if you want to, you can come to love the characters (even the side ones), as much as I do.
Age Rating
12+
This is surprisingly pretty appropriate for preteens. I think that if your child reads above their reading level, they could read this book, but 12+ is meant more for the average reader's reading level. It's not really inappropriate stuff that will stop younger readers.
Language:
The only words said literally only a couple of times are "damn" and "hell". Again they aren't said more than twice in the book which I find refreshing that those are the only words.
Sexual Content:
There isn't a lot of sexual content. There are a couple of scenes where Bella feels a very intense attraction to Edward, especially when he kisses her. It's pretty much just feeling the need to have him closer to her, despite him not wanting to endanger her life.
Violence:
Violence is another thing that's kept to a minimum in the Twilight book. Blood is obviously a huge concept of the story and it's mentioned. Edward discusses hunting animals. It isn't until the end of the book that you really see any violence. Bella is attacked and many of her limbs are broken and it's said that there is blood everywhere but it's not graphically detailed.
